Boone County Economic Growth Corporation to Host Community Open House on Proposed Lightedge Project

October 9, 2026

In September the BCEGC Executive Board announced that following a period of detailed review, they had signed a Letter of Intent with Lightedge Solutions LLC (Lightedge) to purchase 10 acres of land in the Boone Business Park for a colocation data center facility. A colocation data center facility is a secure building that houses computer servers and networking equipment that banks, hospitals, and local businesses rely on to store and process their data safely.

Lightedge has submitted a site plan to the City of Boone, one that the City’s Planning & Zoning Commission has reviewed and approved for recommendation to the City Council.

The BCEGC will hold an open house for Boone residents to learn more about the project. This come and go event will be held Thursday, October 15th from 3:00 – 7:00pm at the Boone County Fairgrounds Community Center. Attendees will be asked to sign in, providing their address and email if they desire further project updates.

Representatives from the Boone County Economic Growth Corporation Executive Board, Lightedge, and Alliant Energy will be present throughout the open house to answer questions that residents might have about the proposed project. Residents can ask about water use, electric infrastructure, noise, and potential local economic benefits.

Lightedge Solutions, LLC has launched a website where people can learn more about Lightedge and how its colocation data center facilities are different from the large-scale, AI-focused computing campuses often associated with the industry.

The Lightedge website includes a place to submit questions, and Lightedge will post its answers there.

Several sites across Central Iowa remain under consideration, and the BCEGC expects to know more about the status of a potential Boone site in the coming weeks.
